When you buy D-Chiro-Inositol from Swanson , you receive 60 capsules of D-Chiro-Inositol as patented Chirositol® . One capsule contains a dosage of 85 mg D-chiro-inositol. The gelatine capsule makes it easy to take.
The preparation D-Chiro-Inositol from Swanson is obtained from the juice of the pods of the carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua). This also contains the essential trace element manganese.
Due to its similarity to the B vitamins, inositol is a so-called vitaminoid and was previously classified as one of these. Vitaminoids include vitamin-like substances that have similar properties . Unlike vitamins , vitaminoids are produced by the body itself, which is why they are not considered essential . Inositol is actually classified as an alcohol and is itself a hexavalent cyclic alcohol.
Inositol can occur in different isomers , e.g. as myo-inositol or D-chiro-inositol. There is scientific evidence that myo-inositol is converted into D-chiro-inositol in the body[1].
Good sources of inositol are mainly plant-based foods such as fruit, vegetables, pulses, oils and nuts. Animal foods with a significant inositol content are meat, eggs and fish[2].
